COLUMBIA – The four K-9 unit dogs serving the Columbia Police Department will get vests designed to protect against bullets and stab wounds, courtesy of a donation from a non-profit organization.
Vested Interest is a charity in Massachusetts working to provide protective vests for police dogs nationwide. The vests they will donate for Columbia’s K-9s will be embroidered with statements honoring two K-9s who died in the line of duty in other parts of the country.
“We are honored to have been selected for these vests,” says K-9 Unit Supervisor Sgt. Scott Hedrick.
Columbia’s K-9s – Kane, Raf, Gorrit, Duncan – help with drug searches and suspect tracking/apprehension.
