Deputy’s K9 partner corners assault suspect in Yachats

YACHATS — A police dog cornered a domestic assault suspect who had allegedly fled from Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies Friday in the Yachats area.

Matthew Poreda, 30, was taken into custody following a 41-minute search, after a deputy’s K9 partner found him hiding in a patch of blackberry bushes, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies first went to a home just north of Yachats after learning about a domestic disturbance there. Deputies arrived to find a 19-year-old woman who appeared to have been assaulted and strangled, officials said.

Poreda had fled the scene before deputies got to the home, officials said.

Poreda was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges including kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, strangulation, harassment and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
