‘Mr. Snifferbritches’ was one option for naming Clayton’s new police dog

Town leaders asked for help naming their new police dog, and the Clayton community did not disappoint.

In the end, however, the names “Bark Rogers” and “Officer Doggy McDogFace” didn’t make the cut. Also denied: “Mr. Snifferbritches.”

The town announced Friday that Officer Robert Moyer picked “Chase” as the name for his new partner, a 13-month-old German Shepherd.

“We had dozens of people suggest the name ‘Chase’ – kids and adults – some taking the name from the popular children’s character Chase on the ‘PAW Patrol’ series, others suggesting Chase as a fitting name for a police dog who will likely be chasing suspects and leads thanks to his training,” town spokeswoman Stacy Beard said in a press release.

The town received more than 1,000 suggestions since Friday, Aug. 4. Among them were Clay, Clayton and Comet.

Moyer and Chase are the second team in the Clayton K9 unit, joining Officer Jamie Brantley and his German Shepherd partner, Abel.
