(KNSI) – A Benton County police dog is now better protected as he’s chasing down the bad guys.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says K9 Ragnar has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s.
The vest was sponsored by Russel Paumen and Kristi Ronallo, of Ramsey and is embroidered with the words “IN HONOR OF ALL WHO PROTECT AND SERVE.”
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said “we’re very grateful for the generosity of Mr. Paumen, Ms.Ronallo, and Vested Interest in K9s. Police K9 teams are important assets in public safety both here in Benton County and across the state of Minnesota. This vest will serve to protect Ragnar and ensure he has the opportunity to serve our area for many years to come.”
K9 vests cost between $1,700 and $2,200 and Vested Interest has provided more than 2,800 of them over the years through private and corporate donations.

Several area police dogs are safer thanks to the organization, including Waite Park K9 Parker (below) who got his vest last year.
