AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The Amherst Police Department now has two police dog teams with their latest addition of K9 Marvin.
In a release sent to 22News, Amherst Police Chief Scott Livingstone said Officer Matthew Frydryk went to Pennsylvania last month and selected Marvin as his newest partner. He’s a 16-month-old German Shepherd from Hungary.
Livingstone said the addition of a second police dog team was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Stanton Foundation, which also provided funding to the Amherst Police Department in 2015 to help establish their first police dog team.
Marvin and Frydryk are out at school training in narcotics detection and patrol operations. Livingston said the team will be used for criminal apprehension, tracking and locating missing people, building searches, evidence and narcotics detection, and for public relations purposes.
